Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Triathlon

The Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Triathlon is the highest qualification on offer with Triathlon England.

Overview

The Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Triathlon is designed for individuals who are dedicated to coaching and want to improve both their theoretical and practical coaching skills.

The Level 3 course is interactive and involves group discussion, presentations and most importantly practical coaching experiences throughout all three disciplines. It has been designed to build on the training and experience gained at Level 2 to further develop your skills as a triathlon coach and introduce you to the more specific skills of working with individual athletes on a one to one basis.

The course builds on the Level 2 qualification and introduces the interdisciplinary nature of sport science and periodisation for coaching on a individual basis from novice to age-group level. Coaches are also introduced to delivering field based testing methods, i.e. non-laboratory tests, while also developing decision-making skills in relation to a number of role-play scenarios.

New level 3 Programme

As part of a wider review of the Coach Education Program, the Level 3 program has been fully reviewed.

A number of changes have been made  including a review of the resources and delivery methods to better meet the needs of coaches and the sport at this level.

  • Course will be over 9 days
  • Course dates spread over around 7-9 months
  • Specialist deliverers and guest speakers
  • Utilising latest coaching technology

Future courses

Following a review and  consultation with the Regional Managers, future Level 3 courses will be delivered at Loughborough university. This was a decision based on a range of issues.
  • Huge increase in external facility costs
  • Logistical costs  for the range of equipment required
  • quality issues with regional facilities.
  • location of specialist deliverers
It was felt that we simply could not pass on additional costs, and that quality is critical to the success of candidates at level 3. With a loughborough delivery base all these elements can be controlled, and we can further support the candidates.

  • utilising highest class of facilities in world recognised sport university
  • adapting course times to improve learning
The current level 3 commenced in  Jan 2013 at Loughborough. The next course will commence  September 2013, dates were released May 2013.
