Avil awaits European challenge

Published:

Hollie Avil is set for the ETU U23 Triathlon European Championships in Eilat this Saturday. The southern Israeli port will welcome Europe’s up and coming triathletes as the city prepares to host the senior ETU European Championships next April.

Avil, who won the world U23 title on the Gold Coast in 2009, hopes to build on the form that saw her win the Larache ITU Sprint Triathlon African Cup in Morocco two weeks ago.

The 21 year old has already taken her end of season break and begun her build up to next summer. She has recently changed coaches, and will spend the winter on the Gold Coast with Michelle Dillon and the training group that includes Jodie Stimpson, Will Clarke and Stuart Hayes. However, she’ll first look for a strong result in Eilat.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to racing this weekend. It’s been an up and down season, but I’ve taken a break, started working with Michelle Dillon and I feel really positive.”

Vanessa Raw will also take part in the Eilat ITU Triathlon European Cup on Saturday.
