New Level 1 Coaching Course

Published:

Many clubs are eager to develop new coaches, and with the next course about to open for applications, here is an update on coach education.

The Triathlon England South East Region will be hosting Level 1 Award in Coaching Triathlon in April/May 2016.

Level 1 Award in Teaching Triathlon Cost = £350

This qualification is aimed at those individuals who are new to the world of coaching and/or the sport of triathlon; it has been specifically designed to provide an individual with the fundamentals of coaching the sport, to equip you with the necessary skills and resources to start coaching tomorrow.

The course is made up of:

  • 2 learning days - usually together
  • home study - around 5-10 hours over 3-4 weeks
  • 1 assessment day (practical and theory)

You will be required to complete home study written tasks, deliver a practical session (on course) and complete a short answer exam (basic triathlon knowledge).

The level 1 qualification remains as an Assistant Club Coach qualification to ensure the role meets the requirements of our insurance provider and the wider coaching industry standards. The following two rules are in place:

  • Level 1 coaches can only deliver 1 in 4 coached sessions independently from a level 2 or 3 triathlon coach. (I.e. three sessions out of four must be directly supervised by a more qualified coach).
  • Level 1 coaches can coach independently for up to 4 months from certification. This may be relevant in circumstances when a new club is being established or replacing a coach.

When and where will the coaching courses take place?

The following South East course will take place at the following location:

Level 1:

The Triangle Leisure Centre, Triangle Way, Burgess Hill, West Sussex, RH15 8WA – Day 1: 23rd April, Day 2: 24th April and Day 3: 21st May 2016.

Applications for this course will open on Wednesday 17th February at 9am and applications will be via the new online booking system.

I am currently investigating the demand for additional coach education courses, as the region wants to ensure we meet the demand. Therefore if you or your club have coaches who are planning to attend a level 1 or 2  coach education course in 2016, please can you email me

If you have any questions regarding coach education, please email the South East Regional Manager, Jenny Vincent.
