Calling all volunteers

Published:

Hartlepool Council’s Sport and Recreation Service is asking local people to give up a few hours of their spare time to help with the event on September 20.

Over 50 marshals are needed to work from 6.30am-12pm and they will be stationed at strategic points along the route.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome, but under-16s must be accompanied by an adult. All marshals should preferably attend one of three pre-event briefings taking place on September 8 from 10-11.30am, September 9 from 6-7.30pm and September 10 from 2-3.30pm, although marshals will still be able to sign up after these dates.

Triathlon is one of the sports being promoted by Hartlepool Council as part of the Feel Good in Hartlepool initiative which aims to get more local people active. Feel Good in Hartlepool is a three-year project that is receiving Community Sports Activation Funding via Sport England.

Emily Hunter, Volunteer Activator with the project, said: “The marshals will have a key role to play in helping to ensure that this year’s Big Lime Triathlon is another big success.”

To sign up as a volunteer marshal or to get more information about the role telephone Emily on (01429) 284049 or email emily.hunter@hartlepool.gov.uk

The Big Lime Triathlon which will take place in and around Hartlepool Marina and Seaton Carew, is a sprint triathlon made up of a 750m open water swim, a 20k cycle ride and a 5k run. It is open to people of all abilities aged 16+.
