Club Head Coach Course

Published:

The East Midlands is pleased to announce the first Club Head Coach Course. This will take place on 13 September in Loughborough, Leicestershire. This is an excellent opportunity to expand your knowledge to lead and support your club.

The Club Head Coaches workshop is aimed primarily at coaches who are performing the role of Head Coach within a club environment and aims to support their development within that position.

The workshops key aims are to:

  • Provide Head Coaches with sufficient knowledge to perform the role;
  • Build regional communities (groups) of Head Coaches to share ideas, best practice and support each other long term
  • Support coaches with their own development and lifelong learning.
  • Aid the development of clubs with a view to long term development and sustainability
  • Assist Head Coaches in supporting the development of other coaches within their Clubs/regional communities, e.g. Assistant Head Coaches

What will it cover?

The one day workshop has been designed on the principle that development within a key role such as a Club Head Coach is a long term process and that appropriate mentoring and establishing communities of like-minded coaches are the most effective approaches to aid long-term development of coaches at this level.

Each workshop is built upon core principles and tailored to the coaches attending, so no two workshops will look exactly the same. To facilitate this tailoring process a pre workshop webinar will provide those attending the opportunity to shape the content of the day from the topics below.

  • Understanding the Role of a Head Coach
  • Building a vision for your club and coaching team
  • Growing and developing a club and the coaching infrastructure that supports it
  • Understanding the 'business' aspects of clubs (e.g. tax and insurance implications) Developing individual coaches
  • Building a coaching team within a club
  • Planning and providing training opportunities within a club, for athletes and coaches
  • Managing safety and welfare in a club.

Recognition

A certificate of attendance will be issued to every coach who attends. British Triathlon encourage coaches to go on to develop a community of practice with the other Club Head Coaches on the workshop and will strive to support this as appropriate.

Why should I attend?

The workshop will provide you with:

  • Key information on the role of Head Coach
  • Access to unique online content through the coaches hub
  • Access to fellow coaches and 'mentors' who will form a wider support network
  • Practical ideas that you can experiment with implementing within your own club
  • Access to a group for discussing and sharing of issues and ideas
  • An opportunity to spend quality time away from your coaching environment and reflect upon your own professional development

All workshops will be facilitated by a British Triathlon Tutor.

What they said

The feedback from coaches who attended the pilot of the Club Head Workshop highlights its value.

"It was a great networking opportunity and a perfect situation to share ideas and questions with like minded people in similar roles."

"The main thing I took away from the course is the importance of the Head Coach role in managing and developing the coaching team according to their strengths and weaknesses and hence providing the best training environment for club members. The course is outward looking, it is not just about looking at yourself, but how you affect other people."

Kate Offord – Assistant Head Coach Manchester Triathlon club.

"A great course, which has to be one of the most useful I have been on. I came away with plenty of action points which is great."

"There are literally loads of topics to discuss. With different sized clubs at different stages of evolution and with different styles of leadership... I really think the course is a great starting point"

Sinan Osman – Head Coach NYP Tri.

Fees

Places are £70 per person and coaches wishing to attend will require a home nation's membership.
