The Minehead Triathlon has re-launched after a gap of 14 years!

The event which run over two days included a junior triathlon on Saturday 21st June and an adult sprint triathlon on Sunday 22nd June. The event was based at Butlins swimming pool with the junior event taking place on closed roads within the site.

The senior event involved a 400m swim, a 23km undulating scenic bike route out to Porlock and back and finishing with a lovely 5km run along the seafront.

 

A gloriously sunny weekend greeted competitors and spectators alike at the Butlins complex.

The junior race saw 77 entrants aged between 8-14 years taking part in the swim-bike-run event.

 

Age category winners include:

TriStar Start (age 8) Alex Scott with a time of 00:06:16 and Talia Hughes 00:06:32, both from Burnham-On-Sea Triathlon Academy.

TriStar 1 (age 9-10) Olivia Earthy 00:11:11 from Burnham-On-Sea Triathlon academy and Shaun Duffield 00:11:21 from Woolacombe.

TriStar 2 (age 11-12) Sam Ponter 00:14:34 from Somerset RC Tri and Shannon Hooper 00:15:07 from Burnham-On-Sea Triathlon Academy.

TriStar 3 (age 13-14) Oscar Roger 00:17:47 and Kirsty Jenkins 00:19:14 both from Burnham-on-Sea Triathlon Academy.

 

Team prize winners included local team St Michael’s Athletic, KLD from Burnham-on-Sea and Wells Angels from Hoscombe.

 

The adult sprint distance race saw 69 people take part as individuals or as part of a team. The team consisted of three people with one person completing each discipline.

 

First place Russell Cowing from Tri UK completed the course in an excellent 01:10:49, second place Edward Paull from Taunton 01:12:27 and third place Wayne Hitchcott from Somerset RC Tri with a time of 01:12:41.

First place female Kira Thorpe from Weston AC completed the course in 01:20:45 with Harriet Rogers from Taunton close behind with 01:21:20 and third place Janet Hewlett from Carhampton 01:23:59.

 

First team place went to the First Time Team consisting of Lut Lefebvre, Leon Troake and Philip Hummel from Bridgwater. They completed their first triathlon in an excellent time of 01:17:29.
