Age-group wins, training in Lanzarote and six weeks to go 'til the World Championships...it's been another busy month as we caught up with Triathlon England blogger, Roz!

Well I have to say I’ve had a fantastic month!  I had a successful training camp in Lanzarote with three of my clubmates at the end of April.  I was quite worried about this having been struggling for many months with my neck injury but it actually behaved really well.  I surprised myself with a sensible streak, realising that I have an important season ahead, so although I didn’t put in quite as much as I do usually on these weeks I still managed 30 hours of training, almost 500 km of cycling and a fair bit of running and swimming too.  Above all else we had fantastic weather, great company and lots of fun and relaxation too.

After a tough five days of training, we headed over to La Graciosa by ferry. This is the little island that you see from the top of Mirador del Rio. Well, wow. If ever you get the chance, do head over there.  It is such a beautiful island and we spent a few hours mountain biking and swimming.  The beaches are simply stunning!

I then had two weeks recovery before my first middle distance race of the season – the Monster Mojo.  This is a lovely race in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire and I was delighted to win my age group as well as beating last year’s time. I only set my TT bike up the day before and in spite of this I felt I was cycling strong and am reassured that a two inch higher position on my TT bars seemed to help my neck and didn’t feel as twitchy as I thought it might.

Next up it’s the Tour of Wessex – eek!  This is one of the biggest multi-day sportives in the world, set in the beautiful South West of England and it is pretty darn hilly!  I have ridden it several times before and really enjoy it (well at least after the event).  In total its 335 miles of cycling with a silly amount of climbing and whenever I have taken part, the weather has been pretty awful!  I’ll be listening to my body again. I've completed all three days a few times so I have nothing to prove but lots to lose.  Hopefully I’ll be fine for all of it but I am more than prepared to shorten a day or have a rest day if I need to.  Its less than six weeks until the World Champs and I want to be on that start line no matter what!
