Winter Triathlon Championships kick off 2016 ITU Calendar

Published:

The first international championships of 2016 get under way this weekend (13/14 February), as a British duo head to Austria for the 2016 Zeltweg ITU Winter Triathlon World Championships.

Athletes will take on a two-lap run course, covering 4.8km, before embarking on a 9km mountain bike course spread over three laps. The final four-lap cross-country ski course will cover 6.4km and ultimately decide who takes an ITU World title.

Keith Jenns will act as Great Britain Age-Group Team Manager, whilst competing for a spot on the podium in a tough M45-49 category. Jenns finished 10th in the 2014 Cogne ITU Winter Triathlon World Championships and will look to improve on his position on Sunday, when the Men’s Age-Group race sets off at 14:30.

Kerry Mcgawley (W35-39) will step up to the start line for the women’s race. Taking on an Austrian-dominated field, Great Britain’s sole female competitor will look to build on her ETU European title from 2011 and make the top of the podium on Sunday. She will set off prior to Jenns, at 9:00.
