North West Junior Series

This page contains information about the North West Junior Series, specifically, the events that are included in the Series, the Series Rules and the latest Series standings in the Results section.

TENW Junior Triathlon Series Scores

The 2016 Triathlon England North West Junior Triathlon Series results spreadsheets have been updated to include all results up to the Bolton Aquathlon. Individual scores can be found by looking at the relevant Tab [one for each age group / gender] on the spreadsheet. The spreadsheet can be accessed by clicking HERE. The Series scores will be updated next when the Salt Ayre Triathlon results become final.

Can I take this opportunity to remind people that fit into any of the criteria below that they must register to complete in the North West Series. Failure to register triathletes that fall into one of the categories below will mean they will not score  points for races that they compete in and they will not be eligible to win a prize in the Series.

- Live outside the Triathlon North West Region.

- Are a Home Nations member that is not Triathlon England North West.

- Fall into the Junior Age Group (aged 17, 18 or 19 on 31st December 2016).

Please ensure when children enter multiple races exactly the same same name and club are used for entry details so they can be identified as being the same person easily. Failure to do this will mean that children could end up with multiple score lines in the Series tables or it generates more work for organisers and myself as personal details need to be checked  across multiple races. This issue is more prevalent to double barrelled names or people with nick names.

If anyone has any queries about anything on this web page then please contact me using the details at the bottom of the page.

Please take a look at the Pre Race briefing document for the TENW Relay event on 15th May to be held at the Palatine Leisure Centre, Blackpool. A link to the document and a link to the entry system can be found in the Race Calendar below.

TENW Junior Series 2016 (9 to 19 years)

Triathlon England North West Region is pleased to announce the Triathlon England North West Regional Junior Series 2016 race schedule, which is shown below.

Triathletes aged 8 to 19 (age on 31st December 2016) will be able to enter many of the the races below. Any child that is 9 or older on 31st December 2016 that enters any of the races below, and lives in the North West, will automatically be entered into the North West Junior Triathlon Series 2016. Children that are only 8 on 31st December 2016 can enter most of these races but there are no NW Junior Series points or prizes awarded to them.

Changes to note in the 2016 Series

1. The Triathlon England North West Regional Junior Triathlon Relay Event will incorporate the Triathlon England Club Championships. The event is provisionally pencilled into the calendar for 15th May 2016. The new rules and scoring system for the event will be published on this web page by the end of January.

2. Then number of scoring races that go an individual's Series score has been reduced to SIX [from eight]. At least THREE of the SIX must be Triathlons.

3. Entrants to the Junior Age Category [17 to 19] must register to take part in the Series. Triathletes must register no more than 2 weeks after competing in a Series Race for the points from that race to count as a scoring race in the Series. The latest you can register for the Series is 16th July 2016. Triathletes just need to register once and all subsequent races they compete in will be included automatically.  If you wish to compete in the Junior Age Group within the Series then please e-mail tenw.regionalevents@gmail.com with your name, DOB,  Gender, Club [if you have one] and Home Nations Membership Number [if you have one currently - you must have one to be eligible for a prize] stating that you wish to compete in the Series.

No registration is required for children aged 9 to 16 on 31st December 2016 unless they live outside of the North West Region or are members of a Region other than Triathlon England North West. In these cases you will need to register by e-mailing tenw.regionalevents@gmail.com with your name, DOB, Gender, Club [if you have one] and Home Nations Membership Number [if you have one currently - you must have one to be eligible for a prize] stating that you wish to compete in the North West Triathlon Junior Series.

4. There will be a number of Senior races included in the Junior Age Groups [17-19] Series races. These will include Boundary Breeze Triathlon, Southport Triathlon, Deva Divas & Mold Triathlon. Some of these races will be discounted to Juniors that have Registered to enter the Junior Age Group [17-19] in the North West Junior Series. For some discounts you may need to a Home Nations member.

The detailed rules for the Junior Series can be found below the Event Calendar - please read  carefully.

A "J" after the Event name denotes that this event will be included in the Junior Age group 17-19 Series.

Relays and the Club Championships rules will be published by 20th February 2016

TENW Junior Club Championships Scores

The full results for the TENW Relay event at Blackpool on 15th May 2016 can be viewed HERE. These results have been poured over by What's My Time and myself over the last week and we believe that they are as good as we can get them. There may be the odd split issue, but not many, if any, but the finish times for each of the teams is accurate. I have compared the manual timing for the day and the electronic timing and they all match to within a second or two.

The Club Championship scores fall into three categories, Boys [T1, T2 & T3], Girls {T1, T2 & T3] and this year we have added an Overall Club Champion with scores coming from any of the age groups that raced.

240 children, 91 teams and Twelve Clubs were represented.

In both the Boys and Girls competition the winner has won by just one point. In the Girls competition there are two teams just one point behind the winners. These two competitions could hardly have been closer.

The results spreadsheet contains one tab for each age group plus a tab for the Boys scores, a tab for the girls scores and a tab for the Overall Club Champions. In the age group tabs the splits for each of the nine legs can be seen along with the overall race time.

So it's got to the time in the text to announce the winners.

The TENW Boys Club Champions are Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club who scored 66 points, just one points ahead of Arragons Cumbrian Triathlon Club and two points ahead of last years winners Bolton Triathlon Club.

The TENW Girls Club Champions are COLT who scored 68 points, just one point ahead of Kendal Triathlon Club and BATS.

The TENW Overall Club Champions for 2016, by a reasonably comfortable 12 points, were COLT with BATS coming second and Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club coming third. The trophies for the Club Championships will be presented at the North West Regions Presentation night [date still to be fixed].

CONGRATULATIONS to COLT and Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club for their success and well done to all the other clubs for pushing them so hard and putting on such a good turnout from their clubs. We appreciate the effort in organisational terms and travel time.  Commiserations to Kendal Tri Club, BATS, Arragons Cumbrian Triathlon Club and Bolton Tri Club who came so close.

Please come back next years and have even more fun!

2016 TENW Junior Series Rules

1. North West Junior Triathlon Series 2016 for T1, T2, T3 and Youth

  1. The series will be one continuous series of events throughout the season with trophies available for the top five in each category.
  2. Those participating in the standard distance events in the Tristar 1 (ages 9/10), Tristar 2 (ages 11/12), Tristar 3 (ages 13/14) and Youth (15/16) categories, will score points for each race they complete. At the end of the season the points are added and trophies awarded to the top five in each age category and for each gender. Ages are taken as they will be on 31st December 2016.
  3. Many events should also have shorter distance races (Sprint and Super Sprint) as well for those who those who are new to the sport or do not want to compete over the longer standard distances. This gives everyone an opportunity to have a go but you will not accumulate Series points by doing these shorter distances.
  4. Any child can enter any of the races that are part of the North West Series i.e. they do not have to live in the North West Region and nor do they need to be Triathlon England members - however, to score points and compete for prizes in the North West Series they do need to meet all the Series Criteria below.
  5. The specific criteria for the series are given below.

Series Criteria:

  1. To be eligible for prizes, athletes must be a member of Triathlon England, Triathlon Scotland or Welsh Triathlon by July 1st 2016 at the latest.
  2. The best 6 scoring races to count. Race score based on the first NW competitor scoring 100 and all others having a score calculated by dividing the first North West competitor time (usually the winner) by the placed competitors time. This is then multiplied by 100 to give a percentage score between 0 and 100.
  3. A minimum of 4 scoring races must be completed to be eligible for a prize.
  4. At least 3 of the scoring races must be Triathlons.
  5. All competitors must reside in the North West Region or declare their intention to participate only in this regional series to the Triathlon England North West Children's Chair before July 1st 2016. Triathletes must register no more than 2 weeks after competing in a Series Race for the points from that race to count as a scoring race in the Series.
  6. Prizes available for the first 5 in Youths, T3, T2 & T1 categories for each gender.
  7. Achievement Award Certificates will be presented to all children that complete 8 points counting races in the Series [at least 4 must be Triathlons] in recognition for their efforts during the season. Children do not need to be Triathlon England members to receive an Achievement Certificate.
  8. Any competitors that have a tied score after taking their best 6 scores at the end of the series will be split by looking at the ‘next best’ scoring event. The competitor with the highest ‘7th best’ scoring event will win. If scores are still tied then “8th best” scoring events are compared and so on until a winner is found.

2. North West Junior Triathlon Series 2016 for Juniors aged 17 to 19 only.

  1. The series will be one continuous series of events throughout the season with trophies available for the top three in each gender.
  2. Those participating in the standard distance events in the Junior (ages 17-19 only) categories, will score points for each race they complete. At the end of the season the points are added and trophies will be awarded to the top three for each gender. Ages are taken as they will be on 31st December 2016.
  3. Many events should also have shorter distance races (Sprints and Super Sprint) as well for those who those who are new to the sport or do not want to compete over the longer standard distances. This gives everyone an opportunity to have a go, but these shorter races will not count towards Series points.
  5. The specific criteria for the series are given below.

Series Criteria:

  1. There are up to 11 specific races for the Junior Age Group [17-19] that are a mixture of Children’s and Senior races. Each of the 11 races has a "(J)" after the race name in the Event Calendar above. Other events may have a Junior age category race, but these WILL NOT score points towards the Junior age category in the North West Series.
  2. To be eligible for prizes, triathletes must be a member of Triathlon England, Triathlon Scotland or Welsh Triathlon by July 16th 2016 at the latest.
  3. Best 4 races to count (from those marked with a "(J)" in the Event Calendar. Race score based on the first NW Series competitor scoring 100 and all others having a score calculated by dividing the first North West Series competitor time (usually the winner) by the placed competitor’s time. This is then multiplied by 100 to give a percentage score between 0 and 100.
  4. A minimum of 3 scoring races must be completed to be eligible for a prize at the end of the season.
  5. At least 2 of the counting races must be Triathlons.
  6. All competitors must reside in the North West Region or declare their intention to participate only in the TENW Junior Series by e-mailing the Region at tenw.regionalevents@gmail.com before July 16th 2016.
  7. Prizes are available for the first 3 for each gender.
  8. Achievement Award Certificates will be presented to all Junior’s that complete 4 points counting races [2 must be Triathlons] in the Series as recognition for their efforts during the season. Triathletes do not need to be Triathlon England members to receive an Achievement Certificate.
  9. Any competitors that have a tied score after taking their best 4 scores at the end of the series will be split by looking at the ‘next best’ scoring event. The competitor with the highest ‘5th best’ scoring event will win. If scores are still tied then “6th best” scoring events are compared and so on until a winner is found.

3. North West Region Junior Club Relays incorporating the North West Regional Club Championships Competition

It was decided at the North West Regional Junior Club Meeting last November that the North West Regional Club Championships would be scrapped as an event in its own right and would be incorporated into the Triathlon England North West Relays Event that is being held on Sunday 15th May 2016.

Below there are two definitions, the first being what defines the format of the North West Relays Event, and the second defines what will be considered to be “a points scoring team” for the North West Regional Club Championships. All “points scoring teams” will score at least one point. Following these two definitions is a description of how the winner of the club championships is calculated.

No North West Junior Series points will be scored within the Triathlon England North West Relays event.

3.1 Format for the Relays event.

  • Teams must have at least 2 team members and a maximum of 3 team members.
  • Teams can be made up of any mix of boys and girls in the same triathlon age category (TS, T1, T2, T3, Youth, Junior or Para Triathlete).
  • Race distances will be half that of a standard Triathlon for any particular age group.
  • Each team must complete 3 “half triathlons” in the order swim (leg 1) /bike (leg 2) / run (leg 3) / swim (leg 4) / bike (leg 5) / run (leg 6) / swim (leg 7) / bike (leg 8) / run (leg 9).
  • A team member can choose which of the 9 legs they want to do. Each team member must do a minimum of 1 leg and a maximum of 6 legs.
  • A team can be made up of children from any Club.
  • Team members do not have to be a member of a triathlon club to participate in this event.
  • Team members do not need to be members of Triathlon England to take part in this event.

The above relay rules are in effect last year’s rules adjusted to reflect that teams will be 2 or 3 and are designed to focus on getting people to participate.

3.2 To be considered as a points scoring team in the North West Regions Junior Club Championship

  • A team must have been registered as a team representing a Triathlon England North West Affiliated Junior Club in the Club Championship by their Club at least 7 days before the event.
  • All team members must be the same gender for T1, T2 and T3 age groups (i.e. all boys or all girls).
  • Teams can be mixed gender for Tristar start and Youth age groups.
  • All team members must be fully paid up members of the club they are representing at least one month before the event date.
  • For teams of 3, each team member must complete one triathlon i.e. a consecutive and non-stop swim, bike & run.
  • For teams of 2, each team member must complete one triathlon i.e. a consecutive and non-stop swim, bike & run. These should be the first two swim, bike runs. The third swim, bike run can be done by one team member or split between the two team members.

These slightly tighter team definitions are designed to create as many entries as possible into the Club Championship competition, whilst still being able to generate a Regional Boys winning Club, a Regional Girls winning Club and a new “Overall” Regional Club Champion.

3.3. Points scoring for the Club Championships.

  • Only points scoring teams [as defines above] can score points.
  • The team that wins a gender / age group will score maximum points.
  • All subsequent teams will score one point less than the maximum points for each position they are behind the winning team, e.g. The second place team will score the maximum points minus 1.
  • The minimum number of points a team can score is 1 [one].
  • The maximum number of points that can be scored will be calculated by taking the total number of clubs that have entered into the competition multiplied by 2.
  • The winning Boys and Girls Club Champions will be the Club that has the highest 3 teams scores across the T1, T2 and T3 age groups. A maximum of 2 scores can be taken from one age group. Two examples of this would be

1.      Two scores from T1 and one score from T3 but none from T2.

2.      One score from T1, one score from T2 and one score from T3.

  • The Overall Club Champions will be the Club that has the highest 6 scoring teams for a club in all the TSS, T1, T2, T3 and Youth age groups. A maximum of 2 scores can be taken from one age group / gender. At least 2 of the scores must come from boys scoring teams [T1, T2 & T3] and 2 of the scores must come from girls scoring teams [T1, T2 & T3]. Three examples of this would be:

1.       One scores from TSS, two scores from T1 boys, one score from T2 girls, one score from T3 girls and one score from Youths.

2.      Two scores from TSS, two scores from T2 Girls and two scores T2 Boys.

3.      One score from TSS, One score from Youth, one score from T1 Boys, one score from T1 Girls, One score from T2 Boys and one score from T3 Girls.

  • If a Club does not have enough teams any particular section to make up the team totals then the missing teams will score zero.

North West Junior Series Scores

The North West Junior Triathlon Series 2015 draft scores after the final race of the season at Salt Ayre can be found by clicking  HERE.

The results will remain in draft format until 26th September when they will be classified as final. Anyone that has queries with the results should e-mail me immediately at rolf.cooley@talktalk.net

If anyone has any suggestions about things to include or change in the 2016 Junior Series please let me know by the end of September via e-mail at rolf.cooley@talktalk.net.

As announced at the Club Championships at Salt Ayre, the North West Regions Presentation night has been postponed due to circumstances beyond the control of the North West Committee. Due to the relatively late change in date it is now proving difficult to find a suitable venue before Christmas so the revised date will probably be in January 2016. Please watch this web page for further news on this matter.

The AGM for the North West Regional Committee will take place at the Lancashire Manor Hotel, Pimbo on Thursday 8th October 2015, starting at 7pm. If you have any items you would like to have raised, would like to attend or would be interested in taking on a committee role then please contact me asap.

The agenda for the AGM can be downloaded HERE.

2015 Series Rules

1. North West Junior Triathlon Series 2015 (T1, T2, T3 and Youth)

The series will be one continuous series of events throughout the season with trophies available for the top five in each category.

  1. Ages are taken as they will be on 31st December 2015.
  2. Many events should also have shorter distance races (Sprint and Super Sprint) as well for those who those who are new to the sport or do not want to compete over the longer standard distances. This gives everyone an opportunity to have a go but you will not accumulate Series points by doing these shorter distances.
  3. Any child can enter any of the races that are part of the North West Series i.e. they do not have to live  in the North West Region and nor do they need to be Triathlon England members - however, to score points and compete for prizes in the North West Series they do need to meet all the Series Criteria below.
  4. The specific criteria for the series are given below.

Series Criteria:

  1. To be eligible for prizes, athletes must be a member of Triathlon England, Triathlon Scotland or Welsh Triathlon by July 1st 2015 at the latest.
  2. Best 8 races to count. Race score based on the first NW competitor scoring 100 and all others having a score calculated by dividing the first North West competitor time (usully the winner) by the placed competitors time. This is then multiplied by 100 to give a percentage score between 0 and 100.
  3. A minimum of 4 scoring races must be completed to be eligible for a prize.
  4. No more than 4 of the counting races can be Aquathons or Duathlons.
  5. All competitors must reside in the North West Region or declare their intention to participate only in this regional series to the Children's Chair before July 1st 2015.
  6. Prizes available for the first 5 in Youths, T3, T2 & T1 categories for each gender.
  7. Achievement Award Certificates will be presented to all children that complete 8 points counting races in the Series [at least 4 must be Triathlons] in recognition for their efforts during the season.Children do not need to be Triathlon England members to receieve an Achievement Certificate.
  8. Any competitors that have a tied score after taking their best 8 scores at the end of the series will be split by looking at the ‘next best’ scoring event. The competitor with the highest ‘9th best’ scoring event will win. If scores are still tied then “10th best” scoring events are compared and so on until a winner is found.

2. North West Junior Triathlon Series 2015 (Juniors aged 17 to 19 only)

  1. The series will be one continuous series of events throughout the season with trophies available for the top three in each gender.

  3. Many events should also have shorter distance races (Sprints and SuperSprint) as well for those who those who are new to the sport or do not want to compete over the longer standard distances. 3. Best 4 races to count (from those marked with a "(J)" in the event list. Race score based on the first NW competitor scoring 100 and all others having a score calculated by dividing the first North West competitor time (usully the winner) by the placed competitors time. 2014 NW JUNIOR SERIES FINAL RESULTS

The FINAL  scores for the 2014 Triathlon England North West Junior Triathlon Series (19 races), can be found by clicking  HERE.

If anyone has any questions or issues with the latest Series scores, please contact me at rolf.cooley@talktalk.net

Next year's Junior Series is currently being collated. A meeting is taking place on Sunday 19th October at the Palatine Leisure Centre where many North West race organisers will be discussing next years Junior races. The Junior Series for 2015 will appear in this web page some time after mid November 2014.

2014 Seasons Summary

This year saw the North West Junior Triathlon start a month later than usual with the Wirral Aquathlon scheduled in the first weekend in March and was successfully completed in Blackpool in September with 18 out of the 19 scheduled events being on different days. There was just on day, September 14th, that had two events occurring at the same time after the Carlisle Triathlon was moved back one week from its original date due to many of their marshals being busy racing themselves. Both events were at the extremes of the region and Carlisle [north] and Chester [south] were both full demonstrating the demand for Junior Triathlons so strong that the region readily filled two events on one day.

The tables below show some high level statistics of the Series this year compared to the three previous years. For the third year in a row the Series has seen a rise in entrants with many of the races posting higher entrant numbers than 2013. A third of the races this year filled up before the closing date. The increase in entrants is reflected in the 20.1% increase in Junior Series “appearances” in 2014 [33.2% in 2013] which was realised by a combination of more children competing and those that did compete, completing in more races. The only age group that saw a reduced of note was the T2 boys [a reduction of 23.9%]. This could have been partly due to an unusually high increase the previous of 54.6%, this year being a correction from that massive rise in 2013. This reduction was more than balanced out by a steep rise in the T1 [16.5%], T2 [50%] and in particular the T3 girls [68.3%] which saw a lot of new girls come into the sport and race this year. I believe that this rise in numbers has benefited from:

-          A number of new Junior Tri Clubs have been formed in 2014

-          The revamped format of the Junior Series web page done by Lucy Cowgill.

-          Visibility of the Junior Series events with flyers being distributed at all the early events in the year

-          Regular updates on Junior Series web page

-          Regular UTI Triathlon on mainstream television and the continued success of the GB team

-          North West Region training days for children from all clubs

-          The regions success at the 2013 IRC’s creating role models for the younger children

I was pleased that at the start of the season all 19 races were scheduled on different days. The clubs that came in with event dates towards the end of the scheduling process were very accommodating at finding weekend s that were clear of other Series races. 2014 welcomed back the Man Tri Junior Triathlon at the new venue of St Ambrose College. This was the first new event that went through a “Course review” before the race to ensure that the race was to be of the right standard for the Junior Series. The race went well and was well organised [and was full] and I can confirm this was a race positive addition to the Series. The other new events in the Series were both at Blackpool with BATS hosting a “triathlon day” which incorporated a Series Aquathlon and the Regionally organised Triathlon event to finish the season, incorporating the North West Club Championships. The only race that was lost from 2013 was the West Houghton Duathlon which didn’t meet the Series criteria for entry. This left the Series with 9 Aquathlons, 9 Triathlons and one Duathlon.

In a massive region the geographical spread of events remains reasonable with 7 events occurring in, or north of, Lancaster (4 in Cumbria) which does give children in the far north of the region the opportunity to compete in organised events a little closer to home.

From a competitor point of view, only one triathlete managed to complete the season undefeated in 2014. Congratulations to Blythe Fourie [Racepace] whom competed in T3 girls and won all nine races she entered and took the T3 girls title, from Lauren Cooley [Tri Lakeland Juniors and T2 winner in 2013] with 6 wins to her name. In the T1 girls Felicity Barnes [BATS], (3rd in 2013) topped the table with 6 wins but was pushed all the way by Georgia Elizabeth Heath with 5 wins of her own. In the T1 boys Rhys Ashton [COLT] (2nd in 2013) with the most race wins in 2014, won 12 of his 13 races being beaten just once by Jack Smith who finished runner up. In T2 girls Lydia Shenton [COLT] took the title with 6 wins by just 4 points from Molly Wren [Tri Lakeland Juniors] with 6 wins of her own. In T2 boys we had the only triathlete that completed every race possible in the series with Louis Johnston [Mersey Tri] racing 18 times and collecting 10 wins. Even with this mammoth effort his victory was only by 0.79 points from Charlie Harding [Arragons and last year’s T1 winner] In the Youth boys Matthew Willis lost his 100% record in the last race of the season but his 7 wins prior to that secured the title ahead of Daniel Slater [Mersey Tri] by just 3.5 points. In the Youth girls Anna Hulme [Tri Team Wigan and T3 girls champion in 2013 secured the title with 7 wins ahead of Charlotte Cassleton [|Unattached] in second. In the Youth boys Jonathon Chatten secured the title with 7 wins from his 8 races. Finally a mention for three girls that clocked up 49 race appearances between them. In the T1 girls both Kirsty Maher [COLT] and Isla Newsham [Mersey Tri] both made 16 race appearances and in the T2 girls Harriet King made 17 race appearances. Well done to parents and family [taxi drivers] for supporting these girls in particular and all the other children that raced in the Series this year.

The mantle of having four family members competing in the Series was taken by the Slater family from Mersey Tri, with Daniel in Youth boys, Matthew in T2 Boys, Jacob in T1 boys and Abigail in the Tristar Start girls. Congratulations go to the Hannam family for the recording best family results in the region with three children finishing in the top 5 of three age groups. Larissa 3rd ,T2 girl, Shea, 3rd T3 boy, and Georgia who was 5th in the Youth girls with only 7 scoring races.

This year saw the second North West Regional Club Championship event. The event was scheduled as the last race of the Series to finish the year on a high and it did just that with 241 children entering. This event was the largest collaboration between clubs with 9 clubs involved with supplying volunteers to run the race. There was a fantastic turnout from many clubs and thanks to Stuart Carter for bringing 24 members, Jo Johnston for bringing 23 team members, Andrew Richardson for bringing 22 members and Kath Smith for also bringing 22 club members. At the other end of the spectrum were Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club (5 members), Warrington Tri Club (3 members) Tri Guru Triathlon Club (4 members) and Rochdale Tri Club with just 2 members.

The 2014 girls title was taken by COLT ahead of second placed Tri Lakeland Juniors pushing last year’s winners Tri Team Wigan into third place. In the boys event Mersey Tri retained their title with COLT in second and Carlisle Tri Juniors in third.

A great day – brilliant end to the season.

The Region continued where it left off in 2013 with a number of skills sessions at Salt Ayre and Capernwray. This year there were 2 bike session at Salt Ayre in April and May. The Open water swim session was again at Capernwray in late July.

These sessions were targeted at children in the region aged 11 years or older, but that didn’t stop a few 10 year olds attending. All three sessions were well supported with just over 30 children attending the swim and 40 attending the bike sessions. In preparation for the IRCs a fourth and final session was scheduled at Capernwary on the Regions IRC team. All these sessions were led by Andy Rawley and all received very positive feedback from parents and children.

Finally the meticulous planning [the entourage was 53 people strong at the pre-race hotel this year] involved for the Regions IRC team was repaid with a well-earned second place. The programme of events put in place by the Region from early in the year created the building blocks to allow our Junior Triathletes to perform at their maximum. With five of the twelve strong team we took this year being able to race in the same age group next year, things are looking positive for 2015.

Congratulations go to COLT for lifting the Girls Championship and to Mersey Tri for retaining the Boys Championship for the second year running. Well done to all the clubs for getting such a high turn out to the event - a great way to end the season.

Junior Series Winners 2013

All the races in this year's Junior Triathlon Series have now been completed. The Final North West Junior Triathlon Series standings, after the final races at Chester and Carlisle, can be found HERE

Children that have won a prize in the Series will get an invitation to the North West Presentation Night in the week commencing 14th October.

Next year's Junior Series is currently being collated. Race organisers are in the process of confirming dates and venues. The proposed Junior Series for 2014 will appear on this web page sometime after mid-November.

There has been some fantastic racing this season and the standards throughout has risen from last year. This was reflected in the North West Region winning the Inter Regional Championship at Eton Dorney in August. Entrants in many races were up 30% on 2012. A great year. I hope everyone has enjoyed their season and can find the time to celebrate it at the North West Regions Presentation night on 30th November, where all prize winners, including the Regional Club Champions, will receive their trophies.

2013 Club Championship Scores

I am please to announce that the Salt Ayre Triathlon results have now been finalised and the North West Region Junior Triathlon Club Championship scores have been calculated.

Congratulations must go to Tri Team Wigan for lifting the girls trophy and to Mersey Tri for lifting the Boys trophy.

In the Boys competition the day started well for Mersey Tri in the Tristar Start Boys with Elliot Bujac and Daniel Johnston taking first and second respectively. This was followed up in the T1 Boys with Sam Johnston (second) and Tyr Bujac (sixth) scoring good points. In the most competitive race of the day, the T2 boys, Mersey Tri again picked up good points with Louis Johnston and Matthew Slater coming in fifth and sixteenth respectively. In the T3 category Daniel Slater and Ronan Murphy were the points scorers coming in a solid tenth and eleventh. With no entries in the Youth Boys it then became a matter of waiting to see if enough points had been scored already to lift the title, which in the end was done with a comfortable margin of 12 points in front of second placed Tri Lakeland Juniors.

In the Girls competition the day started well for Tri Team Wigan with a win in the Tristar Start race for Alice Ockwell, the only Wigan representative in that age-group. The next triathletes to put points on the Wigan doors were Zoe Holliday. eighth, and Scarlett Hilton, twelfth in the T1 girls. In the T2 girls Wigan only had one competitor, Megan Finn, who finished in a fine sixth place. It was the later races that saw Wigan pile on the points and this began with the T3 Girls. Wigan actually had the first for girls over the line with Anna Hulme collecting the maximum 100 points and Emily Barker finishing second. Francesca Brint and Charlotte Casselton were third and fourth respectively. The day finished with the Youth girls where Wigan again scored well with Sophie Myers finishing second and Ruth Whipp in fourth. This gave Wigan a total of 953 points to finish 9 points ahead of COLT.

Other great performances on the day came from Charlotte and Felicity Barnes who came first and second in the T1 girls race for BATS, who were one of the smaller teams on the day. Colt almost replicated the Wigan T3 girls results having four of the first five over line in the T2 girls race.

The North West Region Junior Triathlon Championship Team Totals can be found HERE.

The North West Region Junior Triathlon Championship Individual Results can be found HERE.

Please note the following when viewing the results:

- only the first two competitors across the line for a club were eligible to score points
- where a Club did not have two competitors in a race they have been added a "default score" equivalent to being in last place for any missing competitor.

Finally I hope everyone enjoyed the day. The event attracted 245 entrants which made it the largest event of the North West Junior Series this year. I hope everyone will come and support this event next year and make it bigger and better. Next year I will endeavour to ensure the timing system will allow us to issue results as we go through the event and present the winning teams with their trophies before they go home!

Well done to everyone that took part - YOU, made it a great event.

Presentation of the two trophies to Tri Team Wigan and Mersey Tri will be done at the North West Presentation evening on Saturday 30th November at the Lancashire Manor Hotel, Pimbo. Details of how to book a place at this event will appear on this web page soon.
