Enabling excellence whilst delivering opportunities for everyone

Event Organisers Course

The organisation and delivery of triathlon events are the backbone of the sports success in the UK, and the quality of these events is vital to the continuing growth and development of the fast growing, dynamic and modern sport.

Triathlon England has developed an Event Organisers course, which aims to provide existing and new event organisers with the skills and the knowledge required to provide safe and memorable events for all participants.

The course will be facilitated by tutors with extensive experience within the events and triathlon industry. Each course will be made up of 12 delegates, allowing attendees to share their own experiences and learn from others, in a relaxed and informal environment. Over the two days the following modules will be covered:

  • Event Management Cycle: This module will enable participants to describe and apply all the stages of delivering an event, identifying what  constitutes as a safe and successful event.
  • Project Scoping: Delegates will develop an understanding of what is involved in project scoping and its benefits. The differences between stakeholders and partners will be understood and an outline scope will be developed and used for more detailed planning in later modules.
  • Building the Delivery Team: This will look at the roles and responsibilities of your event delivery team for both a small and large-scale event.
  • Engaging Stakeholders: Develop and identify the stakeholders and partners roles within your event. The role of sponsors and the development of sponsorship packages will also be covered with in this module.
  • Detailed Planning: Delivery of project plans, providing delegates support on appropriate risk analysis, and the creation of appropriate Emergency Action Plans.
  • Course Design: Will help apply the principles of good course design alongside understanding the changes that maybe required for youth, paratriathlon or  races of varying distances.
  • Financial Planning: This module will assist event organisers in developing an event financial plan. It will identify the variety of costs that maybe be incurred throughout the event cycle. Event entry fees will also be discussed during this session.
  • Marketing and Communications: The aim of this module is to highlight the importance of marketing an event. Identify marketing methods, the outcomes of effective marketing and understanding when additional marketing support is required.
  • Event Evaluation: Evaluation of an event is key to the continued success of an event. This module looks at identifying the successful and unsuccessful elements of an event and discusses how to analyse your feedback, and how to decide what action should be taken.
This course not only provides and excellent opportunity to benefit from the event experience held by Triathlon England Event Organisers, but also the chance to network with both commercial and club organisers.

Course Feedback

"This course provoked me to think about new things or things in a different way. It was interesting to hear how the big event organisers and commercial organisers think about planning for event.”

"I think the course has been given a lot of thought and that showed. It followed a logical pathway, which could be followed through and returned to throughout.”

"I expected and to come away with more confidence and knowledge. Returning to continue organising events feeling that I am going about it the right way- this has assuredly been met."
