West Midlands Regional Academy
The West Midlands Region has re-established a Regional Academy to develop young athletes from local and regional programmes to become national and internationally recognised athletes in union with the BTF National Development Strategy.
In addition to Academy days, athletes benefit from continuous monitoring by a team of dedicated coaches. We're delighted to announce the appointment of Level 3 Triathlon Coach Steve Lloyd to the position of Regional Head Coach. He is supported by Andy Teagle.
The Academy helps talented athletes in the West Midlands to build on their potential and give them opportunities to experience top quality coaching from inside and outside the sport with a view to producing athletes capable of being accepted on to the World Class Programme. Through nurturing these young athletes they are all given the opportunity to reach their potential and be the best they are capable of and to be proud to be a part of the West Midlands Regional Academy.
Steve has been involved in sport and coaching for over a number of years and runs his own Triathlon Coaching business. Steve Head Coach and Chairman for Nottingham and Worcester based Absolute Triathlon Club.
The Academy athletes are drawn from the six counties of the West Midlands, comprising Birmingham, Black Country, Greater Warwickshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Worcester & Hereford, and will be fully complemented by the quality coaching provided by their Club Coaches within the West Midlands clubs. The Academy is also supported by a very effective and active committee currently chaired by Rosa Teagle.
Trials were held at several Talent ID days and the Academy now has a core squad of 13 athletes aged between 13 and 18 years who each attained the required standard:
