Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

Triathlon was introduced to the Commonwealth Games in 2002, the last time England hosted the Games. Despite not winning a Commonwealth triathlon medal until 2014, England are the most successful nation with eleven medals, including five golds. These wins include the first mixed relay in 2014 and both men's and women's PTWC victories when paratriathlon was introduced in 2018. Birmingham 2022 will provide English athletes with the chance to add to that tally on home soil with five golds on offer across two days of racing.

Meet the team

Team England have secured three men's and three women's places for triathlon, with a maximum of three men's and two women's places for PTVI paratriathlon. The athletes racing will be supported by staff and coaches as they train and prepare to compete on home soil, with these individuals having been selected to best help the team in their quest for gold. The selections have now been completed and you can find out more about the team below.

This will be Alex's first Commonwealth Games following gold and silver at Tokyo 2020.

A Tokyo 2020 Paralympian, Dave will head into Birmingham as world champion alongside guide Luke Pollard.

Luke has guided Dave for a number of years and raced with him in Tokyo and as the pair became world champions in November 2021

Georgia will be making her Commonwealth Games debut in having won Olympic gold and silver in Tokyo.

Iain took third at the 2021 British Paratriathlon Championships before finishing 8th at World Triathlon Para Cup Alhandra later that year. Birmingham will be his first Commonwealth Games.

Duncan has guided Iain since 2018, winning the British Championships together that year.

Katie moved to paratriathlon from para-swimming during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns and completed her A-Levels this summer.

Jess will be guiding Katie in Birmingham with the pair recently teaming up ahead of the Games.

Oscar will be competing with guide Charlie Harding on his Commonwealth debut having first raced internationally in 2021.

An individual athlete on the Triathlon England pathway as well, Charlie has been guiding Oscar for the last couple of years.

Favourite discipline: I enjoy the run the most. It can be really sociable if you want it to be but equally it can be peaceful.
Sporting hero: Kristian Blumenfelt. I love his work ethic. He didn't win a medal for ages but he was driven and persistent and it paid off.

Sam was selected as a reserve for the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and will be making his Commonwealth debut in Birmingham.

Hailing from the West Midlands, Sian made her World Triathlon Championship Series debut in 2021 with Birmingham being her first Commonwealth Games.

Sporting hero: Dame Kelly Holmes. I remember watching her win two golds at the 2004 Olympics on TV and just thinking wow! I was fortunate to then be invited on a future stars running camp with her at 14, this made my year!

Sophie made her Commonwealth Games debut in 2018, with Birmingham marking her second appearance.
