Nomination Information

The Triathlon England Awards provide an opportunity to recognise the many numbers of volunteers, coaches, officials, clubs and events that make triathlon a truly unique sport. 2020 has been a very different year, however there are still a lot of people to recognise and thank for the time and effort they have put into helping the sport continue during lockdown.

Winners from each of the 10 English regions will be determined from the nominations submitted, with the national winners from each of the seven categories chosen from these regional winners.

This year’s awards reflect the circumstances under which the sport has operated and the people who have enabled it to happen. You can find out more about the seven categories and start nominating below.

Nominate Now

1. Club of the Year

We want to know what makes your club outstanding, how it supports British Triathlon/Triathlon England initiatives and how it has developed volunteers to support them in their role. In the current climate of COVID-19 we also want you to let us know what support the club has given its members, either in person or virtually to allow you to stay connected and take part.

Prerequisites:

  • Must be affiliated to British Triathlon
  • Must not have been the regional Club of the Year in 2019
  • Self-nominations will be accepted

2. Coach of the Year

Since March we know that coaches and coaching have had to adapt in line with the UK government guidelines on social distancing. However, this category is to recognise the coaches delivering sessions prior to social distancing restrictions being put in place. Nominations should be based on what the coach did for their participants and athletes and the impact of that coaching, as well as if they have engaged with multisport events.

Prerequisites:

  • Must be affiliated with British Triathlon
  • Minimum Level 1 British Triathlon qualified coach
  • Must volunteer for a minimum of one hour per week
  • The sessions must not be charged for
  • Must not have been regional Coach of the Year in 2019
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted

3. Key Worker of the Year

This is a brand-new category that reflects and recognises those within our sport who are serving on the frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic and demonstrating commitment and contribution to swim, bike and run.

Prerequisites:

  • Member of Triathlon England
  • Classed as a key worker by the UK government
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted

4. Event of the Year

This category incorporates triathlon and multisport events from 5 September 2019 to 15 March 2020 and includes commercial, club, children’s and GO TRI events. We want to know how this event has delivered an incredible racing experience for competitors and spectators, catered for participants of differing levels and abilities and created a positive reflection of our sport.

Prerequisites:

  • Received a British Triathlon event permit
  • Taken place between 5 September 2019 and 15 March 2020
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted
  • Must not have been the regional winner of an event category in 2019

5. Volunteer of the Year

All forms of volunteering are included in this category including, but not limited to: club volunteers, Regional Committee members, Technical and Motorcycle Officials, Activators, Age-Group Team Managers and event volunteers (TriMakers).

Prerequisites:

  • Member of Triathlon England
  • Minimum eight years old
  • Must not have been regional Volunteer of the Year in 2019
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted

6. Virtual Activity of the Year

A new category that reflects how activities have been staged virtually during the COVID-19 crisis and lockdown. Activities can include club, participation, coaching and events, and we want to hear how the activity has created a positive reflection of our sport and catered for participants of differing levels and abilities.

Video recordings/links can be submitted to support the online nomination. Please email the video to volunteering@britishtriathlon.org with the nominee’s name as the email subject.

All those involved in the video give Triathlon England/British Triathlon permission to view/use it for promotional purposes. Recordings must follow safeguarding guidelines and activities for those under 16 cannot submit video recordings/links.

Prerequisites:

  • Activity must be a minimum of 30 minutes in duration
  • Club and coach activities must be from a Triathlon England affiliated club or coach

7. Virtual Coach of the Year

As a result of the nationwide lockdown, coaches adapted the way they coach and their sessions to be delivered virtually. This new category celebrates coaches who have engaged in this way and we want to hear what the coach has done for the participants and athletes they work with and the impact of their coaching.

Prerequisites:

  • Must be affiliated with British Triathlon
  • Minimum Level 1 British Triathlon qualified coach
  • Must volunteer for a minimum of one session per week (minimum 30 minutes)
  • The sessions must not be charged for

Nominations are now open and will close at 12 noon on Wednesday 2 September 2020.
