Richard became involved in triathlon in 1999, entering his first race as part of a recovery from a football injury. It only took one race (Thames Turbo summer sprint) to realise that he had been in the wrong sport for a large number of years.
Since then he’s raced all distances including the inaugural UK Ironman in Sherborne and that Nordic odyssey called “the Norseman”. He has also represented GB in a long course duathlon event.
He joined East Essex Triathlon Club in 1999 and in 2001 he organised their first triathlons for both children and adults. Richard was an active committee member and then later Chair of the club as he witnessed it grow from 30 to 250 members over the following years. In 2007 he was awarded British Triathlon’s Volunteer of the Year award.
Still an active triathlete, Richard can be seen at many Eastern Region events throughout the season.
