Celebrations at 30th Royal Windsor Triathlon

Published:

The royal celebrations may have been held last weekend but the celebrations will be continuing in Windsor when Royal Windsor Triathlon returns for the 30th edition of the event.

The first Royal Windsor Triathlon was created in 1991 and is held with the historical backdrop of Windsor Castle, the River Thames, the green vista of the Long Walk and the stunning overall surroundings of Windsor.

Following a two-year absence due to the pandemic, the event is set to return this weekend with over 3,500 participants and a sell-out event in 2022.

For both sprint and standard distances, the swim will take place in the River Thames within view of Windsor Castle. The bike route delves into the picturesque Berkshire countryside and the run stretches out along Windsor Great Park and the iconic Long Walk.

The event sees participants of all ages take part including 82-year-old who said the event has “always been her favourite”.

It’s attracted many triathletes over the 29 previous editions, including Tim Don, Emma Pallant-Browne, Stuart Hayes, Jodie Swallow and Spencer Smith who have all taken the crown in previous years.

In recent editions, stars from other sports such as Jonny Wilkinson, Tanni Gray-Thompson, Gareth Thomas and Jenson Button have all taken part as well as royalty, in the form of Princess Beatrice.

Charity partner, Macmillan, have seen over £40,000 raised from the event and each fundraiser is entitled to snacks and a massage once they finish.

Speaking ahead of the 2022 event, Nick Rusling, CEO of Human Race, said: “We’re incredibly excited for the 30th edition of the Royal Windsor Triathlon and delighted to see that this event is flourishing in an increasingly competitive environment.

“The event has become a great window into the sport for triathlon newbies whilst maintaining its reputation as a top event for elite competitors”

Entries to the 2023 Royal Windsor Triathlon will open immediately after the 2022 event. To find out more about how to take part or volunteer at the next event, visit www.royalwindsortriathlon.co.uk.
