2016 is well under way, and with it comes the chance to become Triathlon England National Champion. With all championships now open for entry, athletes can book their spots on the start line to compete for national titles in Olympic and Paralympic year.

Entry opened to the anticipated Triathlon England – National Aquathlon Championships last week, taking place as part of Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds. A highlight of the triathlon calendar, the event is set to showcase some of the world’s finest sporting talent.

The aquathlon will take place on Saturday 11 June, 24 hours prior to the elite action, allowing athletes to get the first taster of the course. Taking place in Roundhay Park, athletes will tackle a 750m swim before taking on a 5km run after which national titles will be decided.

Triathlon England’s Director of Events, Rules and Technical, Duncan Hough, said: “2016 is set to be another fantastic year for the sport, witnessing a host of new National Champions crowned across some great locations throughout England.

“For the first time, the National Aquathlon Championships will take place alongside an ITU World Triathlon Series Event, witnessing athletes compete in the same grounds as the elite stars of the sport prior to the Rio Games.

“We hope our existing members enjoy the prospect of the upcoming season and show another reason for non-members to become part of Triathlon England and join in the battle for national titles.”
