Cycling Mallory Director Chris tells us about his events in the East Midlands and how he became a GO TRI host.
About your event
What type of GO TRI events do you organise?
To date we have organised Open Water Triathlons and Duathlons.
Where are your events based and how can people enter?
All our events are based at Mallory Park Racing Circuit in Leicestershire, previously we have used the Entry Central website for entries, we usually take entries on the day as well, with a small surcharge.
How much do your GO TRI events cost?
Usually around £15 this is to cover the cost of hiring the Race Circuit and lake.
How many people generally take part in your GO TRI events?
Usually around 30-50. Recently we have taken to holding separate ladies races which have been well received and have resulted in a slight increase in female participants.
Hosting a GO TRI
How did you first get involved in organising GO TRI event’s?
Our company was founded in 2014, based at Mallory Park Racing Circuit it is dedicated to cycling and triathlon events. With the circuit being completely traffic free and extremely safe, it is an ideal venue for triathlons especially those aimed at novices such as GO TRI events.
What support did you receive from GO TRI in setting up your events?
We received a package containing flags signs and bibs, originally there was a timing system but unfortunately that never worked. Advice has also always been on hand if we need it.
How many volunteers does it take to run your events?
For a duathlon we need around 15 people to cover registration, circuit marshals and transition. However, if it is an open water swim event we need at least another 10 to cover water safety.
How do you recruit and support your volunteers?
Our venue is also a triathlon training facility which is used by numerous clubs for open water swimming, cycling and running. We recruit the marshals through the clubs, often via social media. We offer free training sessions as remuneration.
How do you spread the word about your upcoming events?
Mostly via our website www.cyclingmallory.com, social media, certain event websites and flyers.
