GO TRI Local returns to local communities

Published:

Having launched in October last year, GO TRI Local is returning to Cambridge and Leicestershire following a pause during national lockdown to bring physical activity to the heart of local communities as part of The Big Reboot.

GO TRI Local aims to bring multisport opportunities to a local community by providing monthly opportunities to take part over the same distances at the same venue, helping participants to build their confidence and track their progress.

The initiative is piloting in Milton Country Park, Cambridge and Mallory Park, Leicestershire, with the focus of the programmes to allow participants to explore multisport in a fun, non-competitive and supported environment that is tailored to the first-timer.

GO TRI Local Mallory Park Duathlon returns on Wednesday 7 April and is scheduled to run through to September, adding a triathlon option to their offering from May.

The first session back will see participants take on a 1.5km run, 7.5km bike and a second 1.5km run around the flat oval of the race circuit at Mallory Park.

GO TRI Local Milton Country Park returns on Sunday 25 April, providing 8-14 year olds with a 1km run, 2.5km bike and 500m run, with participants 15 and over completing a 1.5km run, 4.25km bike and 1km run.

Milton Country Park is located north of Cambridge and from May, June and July will see the first run replaced by a 50m open water swim for 8-14s and a 100m swim for those 15+.

GO TRI is British Triathlon’s introductory programme to help make the sport accessible to all. GO TRI Local is the latest offering to support people in taking their first steps into the sport through regular events in a familiar, local setting for an affordable price of just £5 per event.

Jenny Vincent, Head of Participation at British Triathlon, said: “We’re really excited to be getting the GO TRI Local pilots up-and-running again now that organised sport can resume.

“As England emerges out of lockdown, we’re able to restart GO TRI activity to help people try something new and put their lockdown home-exercise to good use or get back to activity after a winter break.

“Bringing swim, bike, run activity to the heart of local communities through GO TRI Local will provide participants with the opportunity to take part in physical activity in an accessible, fun and affordable way.”
