Large Event of the Year and Children’s Event of the Year Named

Published:

The final two Triathlon England Awards are the Large Event of the Year and Children’s Event of the Year.

This year’s Large Event of the Year is Bournemouth Triathlon, while the Children’s Event of the Year is Discovery Children's Open Water Triathlon.

Large Event of the Year

This award celebrates events across England that offer an outstanding experience to participants of all abilities and ages. This award focuses on events with over 200 participants and recognises the hard work in ensuring an enjoyable, safe and fun environment for everyone.

This year’s winner is Bournemouth Triathlon.

The event is set against the South Coast with the scenic route adding to the experience of taking part. But it’s not just the location that makes this a fantastic event. The event is well run, with the route clearly marked as well as participants receiving clear communications leading up to the event, helping settle the nerves and answering questions for participants even before they knew to ask them.

As well as providing athletes with the information they needed and a great course to race on, they were greeted by friendly and welcoming volunteers who helped the event run as smoothly as possible, going above and beyond for everyone taking part, from first timers to seasoned triathletes.

Participants were also treated to the added extra of a pizza van at the finish with pin badges available and free images, meaning  entrantscould remember the event long after they took part.

Creating a memorable and fun occasion with something for everyone is exactly why Bournemouth Triathlon is this year’s Triathlon England Large Event of the Year.

Children’s Event of the Year

This award celebrates events across England aimed at those under 18 years old and helping them to get involved in swim, bike, run. These events provide children and young people with a safe and welcoming environment to enjoy our sport, some for the very first time.

This year’s award winner is Discovery Children's Open Water Triathlon.

The event offers children and young people the chance to experience an open water swim, giving them the same opportunities as adults, in a safe environment with a large water safety team. This year the event even provided wetsuits for people to use, ensuring that the event was as accessible as possible. The open water swim is followed by a closed road bike leg that is well marshalled and sign posted for the participants and spectators, as is the final run leg.

The welcoming volunteers are on hand to cheer the participants on, offer support and help when needed and ensure that everyone is enjoying the day.

Adding to the safe course and welcoming volunteers is the environmental considerations the event organisers have at the forefront of their minds when planning the event.

The medals and trophies handed out to participants are handmade using recycled materials, while the event has cut down on the amount of plastic tape used around the course as well as providing athletes with paper cups for water.

Overall, a fun, safe and unique event that ensures children and young people of all abilities are able to enjoy triathlon, Discovery Children's Open Water Triathlon is a worthy winner.
