Triathlon England Championship medals on offer this weekend as Middle Distance triathletes head to the ‘Owler’

The fourth of six 2017 Triathlon England Championship events takes place in Kent this weekend as the Owler Triathlon hosts the Middle Distance National Championships.

Hosted by Tri Spirit Events, the race is will finish at the Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford. Originally set for Conningbrook Lake at the same venue, recent water tests have meant that the event will now have split transitions with the swim taking place at Jury’s Gap, Lydd, which is around a 20 minute drive from Ashford.  Full details of this change and the revised arrangements for the race can be found HERE. All competitors are strongly encouraged to read through this detail and plan their event logistics accordingly, to have a stress-free race day.

The event distances on Sunday are 1.9km / 87km / 21km. The opening swim comprises of two 950m laps, before athletes will set out on the point-to-point bike course which includes approximately 800m of ascent. The two lap, mostly flat, run course in Conningbrook Country Park includes a turn point on the Julie Rose Stadium track, with the event also finishing on the tartan in front of the grandstand.

Competition is expected to be close at the front of the race, with the likes of Sam Begg (7Oaks Tri), Harry Palmer (Zoot Athlos Racing Team), Ben Webeck (ABCPure) and Gary Laybourne (South London Harriers Tri) among those expected to be battling for podium positions.

For the women, look out for the likes of Chantal Cummings (Team N+1 Endurance), Laura Fidler (ETE Trisutto) and Catherine Benger (ABCPure), who have all performed well over this distance recently.
