The 2014 Nottingham ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup race on 23 August has been confirmed as the selection event for male athletes to qualify or be selected for the ITU Triathlon Junior World Championships in Edmonton.
This announcement follows the cancellation of the men’s race – the original selection event- at Tri Liverpool on Sunday 10 August due to severe weather conditions.
The full criteria for qualification and selection for the 2014 ITU Triathlon Junior World Championships are as follows:
- The first two British athletes across the line and within the top three at the 2014 Nottingham ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup qualify by right.
- If a third British athlete places within the top 3 at the 2014 Nottingham ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup, they will be considered for selection against the criteria of demonstrating the ability to place in the top 10 at the Championships. This decision is based on historical knowledge of performance requirements at ITU World Championship level compared with their performance on the day in Nottingham.
- No other performances other than those stated above will be considered.
- There will be no medical or mechanical dispensation available.
- All athletes who compete at the 2014 Nottingham ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup will be eligible to be selected if they meet the standard eligibility criteria as stated in the appendix of the policy.
- We have a maximum of 3 places available for the 2014 ITU Triathlon Junior World Championships but this does not mean we will fill all three places, if athletes do not meet the qualification or selection criteria.
