Hundreds of entries have already been snapped up since the event was launched at the start of February, with the lure of city centre racing on closed roads and the festival atmosphere proving an attractive prospect to current triathletes and newcomers alike.

Almost 2,000 participants are expected to take up the challenge in Tri Liverpool and organisers are aiming to bring 5,000 spectators to the venue. Fans will be able to cheer on their friends and family, whilst also having the prospect of seeing many of Britain’s top elite stars competing in the British Elite Sprint Triathlon Championships.

Triathletes across the country have also been attracted by the opportunity to win British age-group titles thanks to the British Age-Group Standard Distance Triathlon Championships, which are also hosted prior to the elite races. Aspirant Great Britain Age-Group Team athletes for the 2016 ITU Triathlon World Championships in Mexico can also book their place early as the event also has the prestigious title of being the first qualification event for the Championships.

Tri Liverpool also has a Corporate Relay for those wanting to get competitive with their work colleagues and a beginner event that provides the opportunity for newcomers to sport to take part in a fun and friendly triathlon event.

There are also a number of GO TRI training sessions within the city of Liverpool in the lead up to the event, ensuring novices have all the support they need to in preparation for the event.  GO TRI is nationwide and offers training and events across the country, the perfect warm up to Tri Liverpool on 26 July, find out more and register online at www.gortri.org

Jon Ridgeon, British Triathlon Director for Major and National Events, said: "We are delighted by the response to entries for Tri Liverpool being opened. The festival is now an established highlight of the British triathlon calendar and demand for places increases each year. Tri Liverpool is a great event for athletes to take part in, with races for triathletes of all levels from complete beginners to aspiring British Champions but it is also a great event for families and supporters to watch thanks to the fantastic support of the city of Liverpool."

Assistant Mayor of Liverpool and Cabinet member for Culture, Tourism and Events, Councillor Wendy Simon, said: “Last year's event was such a great success so it is no surprise that entries are filling up so quickly this year. We all know that Liverpool is a great sporting city and Tri Liverpool has become a central part of that. We look forward to welcoming record numbers of athletes and spectators to the streets of Liverpool to make this year's event the most successful yet.”

Tri Liverpool is organised by British Triathlon in partnership with Liverpool City Council.

A highlights show of the event will be broadcast on Channel 4.
