Only One Week To Go Until The National Club Champions Are Crowned

Published:

As we come to the end of the triathlon season, Triathlon England is on the hunt for the English Club Champions of 2012.

Triathlon England has revealed that there are still places left for the second annual Triathlon England - National Club Championships, which are scheduled to take place in a week’s time (Sunday 9 September) at Emberton Country Park. Clubs and individual members are encouraged to book their spot early to showcase their talent in the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside where the English Club Champions will be crowned, plus receive a £1,000 cash prize!

The whole event is raced by each individual in teams of six, with the final result being calculated based on position points.  Each individual who finishes will be given points dependent on their position, age-group and sex and the lower the points received, the higher the overall team position.

The aim of this race format is to encourage clubs to think strategically about their team and to include a range of age groups, rather than clubs choosing their top younger performers. This dynamic way of racing means the excitement and anticipation is high right until the end of the race, as teams will not know their final scores until the last member crosses the line.

The Triathlon England - National Club Championships, which starts at 8am, consists of a 750m open water swim in the lake at Emberton Country Park, a 20km bike consisting of one lap around undulating country roads and then onto a 5km run course, two laps of Emberton Country Park lake.

Jem Lawson, Chair of Triathlon England, said: “This year has been another successful year in the development of triathlon as a sport and we are delighted yet again to hold this Club Championship event. We can’t wait to see the range of athletes and clubs this challenge will bring together in competition and the format is ideally suited to encourage a variety of competitors from all levels and ages to race in an exciting and competitive event.

“Triathlon is growing from strength-to-strength and to gain an English title  is a magnificent achievement for any club across the country.”

Big Cow Events will again host the event at the Emberton Country Park. Entry has been set up so that teams simply register just one person (the lead entry) in order to reserve a place in the race.

All participants must be Triathlon England members for a team to qualify to win the Triathlon England – National Club Championships. Teams including non-members are welcome to enter but will not be considered for titles.
