Owler Tri to host National Middle Distance Championships

The Middle Distance National Championships for 2017 is being hosted by Tri Spirit Events.

The Owler Tri is set at the impressive Julie Rose standard and Conning lake offer a middle and standard distance events plus aquabikes. The triathlons start in Conningbrook Lake, where additional new funding by the local council is in place this year to ensure the water is top notch and a new entrance ramp is already being built ready for the Championships.

After the swim, T1 is set in the middle of the Julie Rose stadium track which makes it perfect for spectators, before competitors head onto quiet, scenic country roads through Brook, Wye, Godmersham, Molash and Challock for the bike section, before returning to transition at trackside. The bike route is fast with a couple of challenging hills to boost the fun.

The 21K run section is largely flat with two laps and follows a route around the beautiful Conningbrook Lake and surrounding country roads. After returning to the sound of your cheering fans, you then head out for second lap before returning to the stadium cross the finish line in style.

Also on offer the Owler Aquabike both at middle and standard distance - same events, just no need to run!

Camping is on offer for competitors for £20 for the whole weekend - Friday to Monday - at the local rugby club which is less than a mile to the stadium. Parking at the Rugby Club and the stadium is also free all weekend - so no nasty financial surprises when you come into the car park!

Why the name Owler Tri - Many people have asked why we came up with the name ‘Owler’ for our marathon and triathlon events. The Owlers were smugglers local to Kent and Sussex and used to trade in wool and tea. It is also believed they travelled at night and communicated by using an Owl’s call, hence Owlers.
