Jenkin and Allen on top at Triathlon England - National Duathlon Championships

Published:

Daniel Jenkin and Dionne Allen look the honours after a fine day of competitive racing at the 2016 Stockton Duathlon Festival.

Now firmly established in the domestic multisport calendar, the Stockton Duathlon Festival, organized by TriHard Events (www.trihard.co.uk), offers something for everyone, with its Novice, Sprint and Standard Distance races all taking place on flat, fast and spectator friendly closed roads. The Standard distance event this year also provided the first opportunity of the season for athletes to win Triathlon England - National Championship medals.

After a fine start to the season, which has seen him take wins at both the Dambuster Duathlon and the Anglian Water Duathlon, Daniel Jenkin produced another fine performance to take the title – and earn the £500 prize on offer from the race organisers. Daniel would cross the line just over a minute and half clear of Richard Ebbage (Royal Marines Triathlon), who had a very tough battle with Robert Drake (South London Harriers) for second place.

Jenkin commented, “It feels really good to be the first Triathlon England - National Champion of the year. Normally I’ve not had much success with the course, with it being so technical, but I managed to pull out a lead on the final run leg.”

Dionne Allen (Racepace) set out her intentions early with the fastest opening run split in the women’s event, to which she then added the fastest bike time too. She was being chased hard by Nichola Jackson (Preston Harriers), and wasn’t quite able to complete the set of fastest splits in every discipline – with Nichola running just one second faster over the final 5km. As with the men’s event, the winning margin at the finish was around 90 seconds. Donna Edmondson Booker (Leeds and Bradford Triathlon Club) completed the fastest three women of the day.

Speaking of her success, Allen said, "This is the first time I’ve raced in Stockton and the bike course is really technical but it was a really good race to build in as part of my season. It feels awesome to be the first female Triathlon England National Champion of 2016.”

Of the event, the organisers commented, “Thanks to everyone for a fantastic day at Stockton Duathlon today - an amazing turnout, brilliant racing and lots of fun.”

The next event in the Triathlon England: National Championship schedule for 2016 is the Standard Distance Triathlon, which now takes place on 8 May at Grafham Water, instead of St Neots where it was set to be hosted, due to weather conditions.
