Talented up and coming athletes announced in Home Nation Pathway Squads

Published:

The Home Nation squads have been announced for 2019/20 and are seen as a key stage in developing athletes on the British Triathlon Pathway towards potential world class success.

The squads consist of the very best young talent in each of the Home Nations and will see them receive expert support and education from coaches and sport practitioners. Home Nation programmes support athletes who have the long-term potential to be selected onto the British Triathlon World Class Performance Programme and represent Britain internationally.

Exposed to a variety of training camps, opportunities and environments throughout the year, the athletes have displayed an increased level of commitment to developing themselves and their triathlon ability as they seek to progress along the British Triathlon Pathway.

In order to be selected for these squads, athletes will have demonstrated their technical and performance potential, commitment and willingness to grow and develop. Having been identified within their Home Nation system, there is collaboration between the English, Scottish and Welsh programmes to develop a strong British pathway and identity to support athlete progression.

Matt Divall, England Pathway Manager, said: “We have new faces, as well as a number of athletes returning to continue to develop their individual performance potential as part the squad. We’re really excited to start this new year with our 2019/20 England Next Generation squad, with camps and competitions lined up to help them learn and grow as individuals and in their performances.”

Fiona Lothian, Triathlon Scotland Head of Performance, said: “Being part of these squads exposes the athletes to the behaviours, standards and support required to be challenged and develop. Whether they decide to progress on the World Class Performance Pathway or choose a different career path, they will receive the opportunities and experiences to grow as people and athletes.”

Louis Richards, Welsh Pathway Manager, said: “These athletes have shown the technical skill, performance and commitment levels required as we aim to help them be the best people they can be. Alongside their home coaches and parents, we will support them in a holistic manner to realise their performance potential this year and in the years to come.”
