Team England announces Commonwealth Games Paratriathlon selection policy

Published:

Triathlon England has announced its Paratriathlon selection policy for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. The PTHC (previously PT1) category for wheelchair athletes will feature in the Games, marking the debut for paratriathlon.

Selections will be made based on the objective of winning one male and one female medal at the Games. The first placed English athletes at the British Championships in Mallory Park on 28 August will be automatically selected.

Further selections, to a maximum of team size of two male and two female athletes (subject to slots being qualified based on ITU rankings) will be made based on ability to win a medal. Future development of athletes and the sport will also be considered.

Prospective athletes are invited to review the SELECTION POLICY and put themselves forward for possible selection having understood the performance level that is expected. Athletes should contact Sophie Lewis (sophielewis@britishtriathlon.org) in the first instance.

Please include the following – full name (including Mr, Miss etc), date of birth, email address, best contact number and home address. Athletes must have put themselves forward to the long list by 1 May in order to be considered for selection and then access the Commonwealth Games England online portal to upload relevant information.

Scotland and Wales can also send paratiathletes to the Gold Coast in line with their published selection policies.

The men’s and women’s paratriathlon events will take place at Southport Broadwater Parklands on the northern end of the Gold Coast on Saturday 7 April 2018, the same day as the Mixed Team Relays, which Team England won in 2014.
