English Sprint Distance Triathlon Champions to be decided on Sunday in Surrey

More famous for its rollercoaster theme park rides, Thorpe Park resort in Chertsey, Surrey, will host the 2017 Triathlon England National Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships on Sunday. Organised by Tri Project (www.triproject.co.uk), the venue has become a proven host for triathlon competition in recent years.

The opening 750m swim will be a one-lap, anti-clockwise lake swim. The 21km bike section will be a non-drafting, single loop course outside of the venue, before returning to T2 to begin the two-lap, 5km run within the grounds of Thorpe Park. If athletes have any energy left after that, they can spend the rest of their day at one of the UK’s best Theme Parks, riding Stealth, Colossus or the Nemesis Inferno!

Triathlon England medals and championship honours are on offer in each five-year age-category. The overall female winner from the 2016 championship held at Leeds Castle, Amy Pritchard, is set to race again this year. Also set to race is Brit Tate, the overall female winner last weekend of the British Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships at Strathclyde Park. She’ll be looking to achieve a fine double.
