The ‘Triathlon England Club and Coach Workshop Weekend’ was held at the English Institute for Sport in Sheffield recently with over 50 coaches and club officials battling through the elements to attend.
The delegates had the oppurtunity to attend workshops presented by experts in coaching, marketing, funding and child protection - some of whom had travelled from far warmer climates to share their knowledge.
Most notable of these overseas visitors were Paul Newsome and Adam Young from Swim Smooth based in Perth, Australia and Mike Cliffe-Jones from the Camel Media Group based in Lanzarote who gave club officials useful and practical tips on how to market their clubs and optimise social media.
The weekend took an exciting turn on Sunday when Olympic Champion Jessica Ennis joined the delegates for lunch followed by a short opportunity for a chat and photographs before heading back to the indoor track to resume her training.
Morgan Williams, Triathlon England National Development Manager commented: “Despite the atrocious weather, we decided to go ahead and 56 of the 94 delegates turned up and received the benefit of learning from presenters who are leaders in their field.
“The response from the delegates has been one of praise and gratitude for the opportunity to access such high calibre presenters and broaden their knowledge and leave with practical tools they can implement immediately in their clubs to the benefit of their members. This is exactly what we wanted to achieve and we are looking to make these sessions a regular fixture in the triathlon calendar.”
