Triathlon England – National Relay Championships this weekend

Published:

The Triathlon England – National Relay Championships takes place this weekend on Saturday and Sunday 22 and 23 August at the iconic National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.

The event is the penultimate Triathlon England – National Championships of the season after members had their last opportunity to compete for national titles at Mallory Park in the Triathlon England – National Paratriathlon Championships.

Originally started in 1991, the event has become a legendary weekend in the triathlon calendar. In 2014 over 2000 athletes and 100 different clubs joined in the fun that organisers, One Step Beyond call, 'organised chaos'.

On Saturday, Triathlon England members will have the opportunity to compete for National titles in the traditional relay format including a 500m swim, 15km bike and 5km run. In the morning, the men's and women's categories will be contested before attention turns to the mixed categories in the afternoon.

The National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham provides a triathlon amphitheatre for competitors to complete their relay in front of a packed grandstand. If you are local to the East Midlands and want to watch some top racing action and have some fun at the same time, Holme Pierrepont is for you.

On Sunday, the event schedule features a new addition; organisers have added an exciting elite styled mixed relay team format with heats and a grand final.

The race is open to all on Sunday 23 August, but the top two winning Home Nation affiliated clubs in the HEATS can go on to represent Great Britain at the ETU Triathlon Club European Championships in Nice on October 4 2015.

In the heats, each of the team’s 2 female and 2 male athletes will complete a 250m swim – 5km bike – 1.5km run.  It’s fast and frantic and tactics matter!

In the final, teams will compete in a time trial format. All team members will swim bike and run together. Triathlon England medals will be awarded to the top three affiliated men’s, women’s and mixed teams in the final. Find out more about this exciting addition here

The final Triathlon England – National Championships of the year takes place at Oulton Park, host of the Triathlon England – National Duathlon Championships on 4 October 2015.
