Even though swim, bike, run has looked very different in 2020, there are still great volunteers to be celebrated in clubs, events and communities across England.
Each year, the Triathlon England Awards recognise and celebrate the hard work of volunteers who help to make the sport what it is, with this being as evident in 2020 as ever before.
This year’s awards reflect the ways in which volunteers have adapted to enable members across the country to continue to take part in the sport during lockdown, with new categories; virtual coach, virtual activity and key worker of the year added to the list.
Categories such as event and coach of the year are also included, reflecting the activities that were able to take place in between the 2019 awards nominations closing (5 September 2019) and the national lockdown in March this year.

Nominations close at 12 noon on Wednesday 2 September, with the national winners being announced at the virtual Triathlon England Conference on Saturday 14 November.
In 2019, 799 nominations were cast, with winners in each category from the 10 English regions going forward to the national awards. The overall winners were announced at the inaugural Triathlon England conference in November, and you can find out more here.
Andy Salmon, British Triathlon CEO, said: “COVID-19 has affected the day-to-day lives of people across the world, however, thanks to the hard work and creativity of volunteers around England, the crisis has not stopped people from being able to access swim, bike, run in one form or another.”
Debbie Clarke, Interim Chair of Triathlon England, said: “Volunteers across the country are continuing to commit their time, energy and passion into helping others stay active and involved in swim, bike, run whilst at home, and it’s great that we can continue to celebrate them with the 2020 Triathlon England Awards.”
With seven categories to nominate someone in, the 2020 Triathlon England Awards nominations are now open and will close on Wednesday 2 September at 12 noon.
