Triathlon Industry Launches Fourth Annual Athlete Survey

Published:

To greet the arrival of 2016, with Rio now just months away, the Triathlon Industry Association (TIA) is today officially launching its most in-depth study of the multisport community to assess the state of health of the sport and its associated businesses.

With just seven months to go before the British team travels to Rio to try to build upon the fantastic feats of the Brownlees in London, the TIA has partnered with British Triathlon to gain greater insights about the rapidly growing triathlon community and to identify any barriers in the way of the sport’s continued rise.

To incentivise the biggest-ever response from active, prospective and lapsed triathletes, the industry has teamed up to create an amazing pool of prizes including a training holiday to Lanzarote, wetsuits, tri-suits, goggles, sunglasses, swim training, magazine subscriptions and event entries.

The total value of the prize fund is more than £6,000, with 100 prizes to be won. Prizes can be viewed here, and the prize list is still growing.

In addition to providing comparative data for the core areas of participation, expenditure and demographics, the fourth annual TIA study will explore membership levels of both clubs and the Home Nation Associations, alongside the impact of new technology on the sport, both performance and training hardware and wearable tech.

For non-triathletes, new and expanded questions will focus upon barriers to taking on a triathlon, plus awareness of and interest levels in Triathlon England’s GO TRI initiative.
All respondents will be quizzed upon emerging areas such as swimrun, and with interest in children’s triathlon growing, whether there is adequate provision currently being made for the triathletes of the future.

The Triathlon Industry Association comprises event organisers, equipment manufacturers, tour operators, retailers, distributors and media.

Nick Rusling, Chairman of the TIA said: “The association’s annual research project is of paramount importance to the continued growth of our sport and its businesses. The study provides our members
with robust data upon which to make informed business decisions. Each year our understanding of Britain’s multisport community grows, and the way we operate our businesses evolves in line with this insight.”

Jack Buckner, Chief Executive of British Triathlon adds: “The Rio year is tremendously important to triathlon as it represents the sport’s biggest shop window. We must work collectively both as a sport and as an industry group to leverage the momentum that the Games bring, and the TIA data will be invaluable in helping us to fuel growth, participation and performance.’
