British Triathlon is proud to be supporting Road Safety Week (19-25 November 2018); covering key topic areas to help triathletes be more 'Bike Smart'.
Road Safety Week, taking place 19-25 November is coordinated annually by road safety charity, Brake, and is the UK’s biggest road safety event. The campaign aims to inspire thousands to take action on road safety and promote life-saving messages during the week and beyond. At British Triathlon, we want to ensure that our sport is safe for all by promoting positive cycling and, in turn, reducing the number of incidents in both competition and in training.
A series of videos, infographics and tips covering key topic areas from group riding and communication, to being seen and safe while riding in winter have been added to the British Triathlon website at www.britishtriathlon.org/roadsafety for the whole triathlon community to access, with content set to be shared across British Triathlon social channels, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter throughout the week.
Andy Salmon, British Triathlon CEO said “Keeping triathletes safe on the road is at the heart of our vision to create great experiences through swim, bike and run. We hope the whole multisport community will get behind our efforts to promote triathlon as a sport that is safe and fair for everyone to take part in.”
Joshua Harris, Director of Campaigns for Brake, the road safety charity, said: “Road Safety Week is a vital loudspeaker for individuals, communities and organisations to shout about road safety and raise awareness of the risks on our roads. With one bike rider being killed or seriously injured every hour in Britain, there is no better time for us all to be more ‘Bike Smart’.”
The triathlon community will be encouraged to get involved in the campaign by sharing content throughout the week, hosted on our dedicated Road Safety Week page www.britishtriathlon.org/roadsafety.
