Taking place in Slovakia on 28 August, the world’s best long course triathletes will battle it out in this innovative team triathlon event that pits Team Europe against Team USA and an International Team.
The inaugural Collins Cup will see each team comprise six men and six women who will compete in individual races against one member from each of the other two teams in a three-way head-to-head battle.
The four highest ranked men and women from each of Europe, USA and the International Team will automatically qualify for their team, with the remaining two spaces picked by the team captains.
There are currently three Brits in the qualifying places for Team Europe: Lucy Charles-Barclay, Holly Lawrence and Joe Skipper, with Katrina Matthews, Emma Pallant and George Goodwin not far outside their respective top-four.
Captaining Team Europe and selecting the remaining athletes when the qualification period ends on 9 August will be multiple IRONMAN World Champions, Chrissie Wellington and Normann Stadler.
Each of the 12 head-to-head races will see points allocated depending on position, with first place earning three points, second place earning two points and third place earning one, with bonus points also on offer.
The racing will take place over a middle distance course at the x-bionic® sphere resort in Samorin, Slovakia. The team with the most points will win The Collins Cup, with the team in last place being presented with The Broken Spokes Trophy.
A total prize purse of $1.5m will be split between the 36 athletes who compete depending on their gender ranking against the other athletes taking part.
The Collins Cup action will be broadcast live in Europe on Eurosport 2 and the Eurosport App, with over seven hours of live coverage on Saturday 28 August and highlights shown on Eurosport 1 the next day.
